Ingredients

  • Sauce:
  • 1/2 lb lasagna noodles, uncooked
  • 1 lb mozzarella cheese, grated
  • 3/4 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp basil
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 28-oz can tomatoes, broken up
  • 2 6-oz cans tomato paste
  • Filling:
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 Tbsp dried parsley
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Preparation

Step 1

Brown ground beef, drain excess fat. add onion and garlic, stir and cook 10 minutes. Add remaining sauce ingredients and simmer 20 minutes.
Combine egg, ricotta, parsley and salt. In the bottom of a 13" x 9" baking dish spoon 1 1/2 cups meat sauce. Layer 1/3 noodles, 1/3 remaining meat sauce, 1/3 ricotta, 1/3 mozzarella, and 1/3 Parmesan. Repeat layering.
Cover with foil. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake uncovered 25 minutes more. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting.
