Ingredients

  • 6 large portobello mushrooms (4-4 1/2 inches) stems removed
  • 1 T olive oil
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 can pizza sauce
  • 1 medium green pepper, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 C chopped fresh mushrooms
  • 1/4 C grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 C (4 oz) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • thinly sliced fresh basil leaves, optional

Preparation

Step 1

Place mushrooms, stem side down, on greased baking sheet. Drizzle with oil. Bake at 350 for 20-25 min or til tender, turning once.
Meanwhile, cook sausage til no longer pink; drain. Stir in pizza sauce, pepper, onion, mushrooms, Parmesan cheese and garlic. Divice among mushrooms; sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Broil 2-3 in from heat for 1-2 minutes or til cheese is melted. Sprinkle with basil if desired.
