  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter
  • 5-7 cups bread flour

Step 1

Place the warm water, honey, and salt in a large bowl and sprinkle the yeast over the surface of the water. Allow to stand until the yeast is nearly dissolved and becoming foamy, then swirl to disperse the yeast particles. Add the melted butter, and gradually add the flour, stirring with a spoon, until a stiff dough has formed.
Turn the dough out on a floured board and knead, adding flour as needed to prevent dough sticking to board or hands. Knead for 10 minutes, or until the dough has become satiny and elastic and not sticky.
Place the dough in a clean, oiled bowl in a warm place, covered, and allow to rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour. Punch down the dough, divide in two equal portions, and place in two well-greased loaf pans. Allow to rise again until the dough is well above the edge of the pan.
Place in a preheated 350 degree oven and bake for about 40 minutes, until the top is golden brown. Turn the bread out of the pan onto a rack and allow to cool.
