Ingredients

  • 1 package baking yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (120° - 130°)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 4 cups flour
  • coarse salt (optional)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • vegetable oil or spray

Preparation

Step 1

Mix salt, sugar, flour and yeast with water until a dough is formed.

Roll dough into a circle, then cut with a pizza cutter or sharp knife. If children are helping you prepare the pretzels, give each child a ball of dough to roll and twist into any shape. (Alphabet shapes are fun to make).

Lay pretzel dough on lightly oiled cookie sheet. Brush or spoon beaten egg onto pretzels. Sprinkle with coarse salt, if desired. Bake at 425°F for 12-15 minutes.

Variation: Dough can be sprinkled with Parmesan cheese.
