Ingredients

  • 1 Large Loaf Sweet French Bread, torn into bite-sized pieces
  • 5 Whole Eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1 cup Packed Brown Sugar, divided
  • 1/2 stick (4 Tbsp) Butter, cut into thin slices
  • Powdered Sugar, for dusting
  • Fresh Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, etc.
  • Syrup

Preparation

Step 1

Spread bread in an even layer in a large casserole or baking dish. Mix eggs, milk and 1/2 cup of the brown sugar; pour over the top. Press lightly with back of large spoon to help bread absorb liquid. Check to see if all bread is moist. If not, add another 1/2 to 1 cup of milk. Let sit about 15 minutes, or cover with plastic wrap and let sit overnight in refrigerator. Sprinkle top with remaining brown sugar and dot with butter. Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree oven about 45 minutes, or until top is golden brown. Cut into squares and top with powdered sugar, berries and syrup.
