Ingredients
- 3/4 cup evaporated milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 4 tsp vinegar
- 3/4 cup dark molasses
- 1 1/2 cup bran
- 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 cup raisins

Step 1
In small bowl, combine evaporated milk, water, vinegar, molasses, and bran, and let stand.
Into a 1 1/2 or 2 quart mixing bowl, sift together flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Work shortening into flour mixture with a fork. Add milk mixture all at once and mix quickly but thoroughly. Fold in raisins.
Pour into greased loaf pan. Bake on center rack of oven at 350°, until bread pulls from sides of pan, about 45 minutes.
Let stand in pan for 5 minutes before turning out. Cool on wire rack.
