  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk

Step 1

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Mix flour, baking powder and soda and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture looks like coarse meal. Add buttermilk and stir until blended. Turn out onto floured surface and knead lightly (do not overknead!). Roll dough 1/2 inches thick and cut out circles with floured biscuit cutter. Bake on ungreased baking sheet for 12-15 mintues, until golden brown.
