Ingredients

  • Cake:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 4 tbs baking cocoa
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten slightly
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Frosting:
  • 4 tbs cocoa
  • 1 stick butter
  • 6 tbs milk
  • 1 lb powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a large jelly roll pan. For cake, sift together sugar and flour in large bowl. In medium saucepan, melt butter together with cocoa and water until well blended. Pour cocoa mixture over flour mixture. Add milk, eggs, baking soda and vanilla and mix well with wooden spoon. Pour into prepared pan and bake 25 to 30 minutes. While cake is baking, melt butter, cocoa and milk for frosting in same saucepan from cake. Add powdered sugar one cup at a time until blended. Add vanilla and nuts and keep on low heat. Pour over cake as soon as it comes out of the oven. Cool for 2 hours.
