Mama's Eggnog

Ingredients
- 6 eggs, separated ( see note)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 cups whipping cream
- 2 quarts milk
- 1 cup bourbon
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- Freshly grated nutmeg (optional)

Preparation
Step 1
In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the egg yolks with 1/2 cup of the sugar until thick. In another bowl, beat the egg whites with the reaming 1/4 cup sugar until thick but not dry. In a third bowl, beat the cream until thick but still soft.
Fold the cream into the yolks, then fold in the egg whites. Gently stir in the milk, bourbon, vanilla, and a pinch of nutmeg, if desired. Chill thoroughly before serving.
Serve the eggnog in a large punch bowl.
Serves 8 to 10
