Ingredients
- 1 package (1/4-ounce) rapid rise yeast
- 1/2 cup (4-ounces) water-105-115-degrees F
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder, fresh-check date
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 cup (8-ounces) solid shortening (Crisco)
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk

Biscuits, Angel
Combine yeast and warm water in a 1-cup liquid measuring cup; let stand 5 minutes.
Combine flour and the next 4 ingredients in a large bowl; cut in 1 cup
shortening with pastry cutter until mixture is crumbly. Add yeast mixture
and buttermilk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened. Do not mix.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 6 to 10 times only.
Roll dough to 1/2 thickness. Cut with 2-inch round cutter; only cut down
with cutter-do not twist or turn. Place on lightly greased baking sheets.
Bake at 400 degrees F for 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
Yield: 5 dozen
