Ingredients
- 1 pound butter at room temperature
- 3 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 5 cups all purpose flour
- Coloured sanding sugar or sprinkles or
- Royal icing

Preparation
Step 1
Beat butter and sugar on medium high speed until light anf fluffy-about 5 min
Add eggs,vanilla and salt
Mix on medium high unil blended
With mixer on low speed add flour in 2 batches,mixing until just incorporated
Turn dough onto a clean work surface
Divide in half and pat into flattened rectangles
Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 2 hours or up to one week
Preheat oven to 350,with racks in upper and lower thirds
Line large baking sheets with parchment
Cut out shapes and place on trays about 2 inches apart
Chill until firm-about 15 min
Gather scraps and roll out again
Chill 15 min
Drcorate cookies with sanding sugar or sprinkles
Bake rotating trays half way through,until cookies are golden around the edgesand slightly firm to the touch,about 15 min
Decorate with Royal icing,if using
Top icing with sanding sugar or sprinkles
Can be kept about 3 days
