Preparation
Step 1
Mix dry ingredients together. Dribble oil over, then add about 1 cup of warm water.
Mix by hand until you need to add more water. After kneading, dough should be slightly sticky.
Let dough sit in bowl and cover with moist towel. Overnight is best, but 2-3 hours will work.
Take a handful of dough, roll out on floured surface until 1/4-inch thick and cut into 2 x 2-inch squares.
Heat oil to 350 degrees and drop dough into hot oil. Turn when golden brown and when done, drain on paper towel.
For Grape Dumplings:
Make fry bread dough and roll out to about 1/8-inch thick, cut into 1 x 1-inch squares.
Bring one can of concentrated grape juice and 4 pounds or less of sugar in a large pot with about 1 gallon of water (more if you want it thinner, less for thicker) to a boil. Add squares one at a time.
Bring back to a boil, turn off and let cool.
