Hearty Southwestern Burgers

Ingredients
- 2 lb. lean ground beef chuck
- 1/3 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 tbsp. chili powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
- 3/4 tsp. chopped fresh oregano
- 3/4 tsp. garlic pepper seasoning
- 3/4 tsp. salt (optional)
- 6 slices (about 4 oz.) peppered Jack cheese (optional)
- 6 hamburger buns

Step 1
1. Preheat grill to medium direct heat. Meanwhile, crumble meat into medium bowl. Sprinkle with onion, chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic pepper, and salt, if desired; toss lightly with 2 forks to mix well. Shape into 6 patties, each S/4-inch thick.
2. Place burgers on grill. Grill, covered, 5 to 7 minutes per side or until done (160°F). Top each burger with a slice of cheese, and place buns cut side down on grill during last 1 to 2 minutes of cooking, if desired.
3. Serve hot burgers in buns.
