Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup walnut halves
  • 1 cup butter or margarine,softened
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 16 oz pkg semisweet chocolate morsels

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 350
-Spread walnuts on a 15x10x1 in jelly roll pan(a cookie sheet with sides) and place in the oven to toast the nuts,stirring frequently,until they are golden brown and fragrant, about 10 min
-Remove nuts from oven,chop finely and reserve
-Set the jelly roll pan aside to cool,then lightly grease it
-Meanwhile, in a medium bowl with mixer at medium speed,blend butter with sugar until light and fluffy
-Beat in egg,vanilla and salt
-With mixer at at very low speed,add flour, beating until well blended
-Spread dough evenly on the bottom of the jelly roll pan
-Bake 20 min or until it just begins to pull away from the sides of pan
-Turn oven off
-Sprinkle chocolate evenly over the top and and return pan to oven for 5 min or until chocolate is soft
-Remove and immediately spread chocolate evenly until smooth
-Sprinkle with chopped walnuts
-While still warm,cut crosswise into 2 in strips, then diagonally into diamond shaped square
-Set aside to cool completely before removing from pan
