Ingredients
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 eggs
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon Anise seed
- 1 cup almonds, coarsely chopped
- milk
- granulated sugar
- Variation
- Omit Anise seeds; add 1/2 teaspoons vanilla, 1 teaspoon lemon zest and 1 teaspoon orange zest; when bake slice each low diagonally and return to oven for 5 to 10 min. to brown.

Preparation
Step 1
1. Cream butter and sugar until light. Add eggs, one at a time beating after each addition. Continue beating until very light.
2. Add the flour, baking powder, salt and Anise seed together. Mix into the creamed mixture.
3. Stir in nuts, divide dough into four; greased two cookie sheets; form dough into two loaves, 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches wide and the length of each baking sheet.
4. Bake at 350°F for 25 to 30 min.
5. Remove from oven and cut rolls diagonally into 1/2 inch slices; place cut side down on cookie sheet, brush with milk and specialness granulated sugar.
6. Return to oven, bake at 375°F for 10 min. longer or until toasty and crispy.
