Ingredients
- 5 medium to large apples (I only use Granny Smith Apples), peel and cut up apples
- 3/4 cup sugar less 1 Tbsp.
- 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- dash of salt (I cut up 2 apples and very lightly sprinkle salt, then cut remaining apples and very lightly sprinkle with salt)
- 2 Tbsp butter or margarine (I use slightly less)
- CRUMB TOPPING
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 cup room temperature butter (I always use butter for the topping)

Step 1
Preheat oven to 425.
Sift together sugar, flour, nutmeg and cinnamon over the cut up apples and mix well. Put apple mixture in a prepared pie shell. Use the 2 Tbsp of butter to "dot" the top of the apples.
CRUMB TOPPING: Mix sugar, flour and butter with a fork until the mixture is in crumbles. Sprinkle evenly over the top of the apples.
