Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 2 unsweetened chocolate baking squares
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large egg, fork-beaten
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup walnuts
  • CHOCOLATE ICING
  • 1 1/3 cups icing sugar
  • 1/3 cup cocoa, sifted if lumpy
  • 3 tbsp hard margarine
  • 1 1/2 tbsp hot prepared coffee

Preparation

Step 1

Heat margarine and chocolate in medium heavy saucepan over lowest heat, stirring often, until chocolate is almost mellted. Do not overheat. Remove from heat. Stir until smooth.

Add brown sugar. Stir. Add eggs and vanilla. Stir well.

Add flour and walnuts. Stir until just moistened. Spread evenly in greased 9x9 inch pan. Bake in 350 oven for about 25 minutes until wooden pick inserted in centre comes out moist but not wet with batter. Do not overbake. Cool.

CHOCOLATE ICING
Beat all 4 ingredients in small bowl until smooth, adding more coffee or icing sugar if necessary until spreading consistency. Makes about 1 cup icing. Spread evenly over cooled brownies.
