Ingredients
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 - 6 1 - 6 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate
- chips or butterscotch chips
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Preparation
Step 1
Melt shortening and cool slightly.
Beat in brown sugar.
Add egg and vanilla and beat until mixture is light and fluffy.
Combine flour, baking powder, and salt: and add to creamed mixture.
Lightly stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
Spread mixture in greased 8" square pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25 -30 minutes.
Do not overbake.
