Ingredients

  • Frosting:
  • 3/4 cup plus 3 Tbsp. milk
  • 1 Tbsp. cider vinegar
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt (or 1/4 tsp.)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 4 cups confectioners sugar
  • 3/4 stick margarine
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • water

Preparation

Step 1

Mix milk and vinegar together. Let set until milk sours.
Combine shortening, sugar, egg, and vanilla and beat until creamy.
Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa.
Mix in flour mixture and sour milk alternately to creamed mixture.
Refrigerate dough.
Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 325 to 350 degrees for 8 - 10 minutes.
After cookies cool frost.

Frosting:
Beat until smooth adding water until you get the right consistencey.
Frost half of each cookie with white icing.
Add 2 heaping Tbsp. cocoa to remaining frosting and beat til smooth.
Frost other half of cookie
