Ingredients

  • Frosting:
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • dash salt
  • 2 TBSP margarine, softened
  • 2 to 3 TBSP milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 375. Grease cookie sheets. In large bowl, combine first 5 ingredients. Blend well. Stir in remaining cookie ingredients. Drop by rounded teasponfuls, 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Immediately remove from cookie sheet, cool. In small bowl, combine all frosting ingredients, beat until light and fluffy. Spread over cooled cookies.
