Ingredients
- 1 lb dried pinto beans
- 5 1/2 cups water
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 2/3 cup chopped cooked ham
- 1 T chili powder
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1/4 tsp dried oregano
- 1/4 tsp cumin
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 1/2 tsp salt

Preparation
Step 1
Sort and wash beans; place in large pan. Cover with water to 2 inches above beans. Bring to boil and cook 1 minute. Remove from heat; cover and let stand 1 hour. Drain beans.
Place in 5-qt slow cooker. Add 5 1/2 c water and next 7 ingredients (not salt); stir well. Cover and cook on low for 10 hours or until tender. Stir in salt.
