Easy Whole Wheat Bread

Ingredients
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 2 pkgs. yeast
- 2- 1/4 cups milk
- 1/4 cup cooking oil
- 1 egg
- 3 to 4 cups flour

Step 1
Combine 2 cups whole wheat flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a large bowl.
Heat milk and cooking oil until very warm (120 to 130 degrees).
Add warm liquid and egg to dry mixture.
Beat 1/2 minute at low speed of electric mixer, scraping sides.
Beat 3 minutes at medium speed.
By hand, gradually stir in 1 more cup whole wheat flour and 3 to 4 cups white flour to form a soft dough.
Knead on floured surface til smooth and elastic, about 1 minute.
Place in greased bowl and turn dough till all sides are greased.
Cover and let rise until light and doubled, about 1 hour.
Punch down.
Shape into 2 loaves and place in greased bread pans.
Cover and let rise until light, 30 to 45 minutes.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes or until bread sounds hollow.
Remove from pans immediately.
Cool on rack.
Brush tops with butter.
Yield: 2 loaves
