Preparation
Step 1
Sift together 4 c all purpose flour, 1 tbsp salt, 1 tbsp baking powder, 2 tsp bakding soda. Then cut in 1 c vegetable shortening which was cold and cut into 1/2 inch pieces and mix until it resembles course crumbs. Make a well and in the center add 1 c buttermilk. Using hands fold in dry ingredients until a sticky dough forms. May need to add more buttermilk. Turn dough onto floured surface. Gently fold over itself 3 to 4 times to create layers. Press inot 1 1/2 inch thickness. Then cut with floured biscuit cutte Put on ungreased cookie sheet and brush top with buttermilk Bake for 20-25 in a pre heated 375 degree oven until risden and golden brown. I TRIED THESE ON 5/26/10 AND THEY GOT A LITTLE TOO DONE AND ONLY COOKED ABOUT 20 MINUTES. DID NOT RISE MUCH AT ALL AND DID NOT SPREAD OUT. USED GLASS TO CUT THEM OUT. MAYBE TOP WITH BUTTER INSTEAD OF BUTTERMILK, THE BUTTERMILK DID NOT SEEM TO DO ANYTHING. EVERYONE THOUGHT THEY WERE OK OTHER THAN KYLE.
