Eggshell Suet

"I adapted this suet cake recipe from an old issue of 'Birds and Blooms.' The eastern bluebirds in my area love it. The eggshells are especially good to use during nesting season because they provide birds extra calcium for stronger eggs."

Ingredients
- 1 cup lard
- 1 cup chunky peanut butter
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 2 cups yellow cornmeal
- 1 cup flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2/3 cup chicken scratch
- 1/3 cup washed, dried and crushed eggshells

Preparation
Step 1
Melt lard over low heat. Add peanut butter. Stir until melted. Add other ingredients and mix well. Line a baking pan with wax paper. Spread into pan and then cut mixture into squares. Freeze for about an hour. Remove cakes and store in freezer.
There's no need to thaw before serving. Just put them out and enjoy watching your feathered friends!
