Ingredients

  • CAKE-
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup Dr. Pepper
  • 4 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp soda
  • FROSTING*
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup Dr. Pepper
  • 3 tblsp cocoa
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cups pecans or walnuts , chopped
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 365°

Heat together the fat and Dr. Pepper until fat is melted--*DO NOT BOIL*

Mix together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, salt, cocoa into a mixing bowl.

Combine eggs, buttermilk, soda and vanilla in another bowl.

Add the hot Dr. Pepper mixture to the dry ingredients and blend well. Lastly, add the egg mixture, mixing well.

Pour into a a sheet cake pan 15 1/2 X 10 1/2 X 1" or you can use two 8" X 8" baking dishes. Bake for 25 minutes or until cake tests done.

About 5 minutes before cake is done, start the frosting by heating together the fat, cocoa, and Dr. Pepper in a sauce pan. Then stir in the nuts, vanilla, and powdered sugar. Blend until smooth. Spread evenly on the cake immediately when removed from the oven and while hot.

Cool completely and then serve.
