Grandmother B's Chocolate Pudding
By Bettye
My husband's grandmother was a true "Southern Belle" and this recipe was from her childhood. The copy I have in her handwriting is so cryptic that I doubt anyone else could interpret it, but it is truly a treat and I think of her everytime I make it.

Preparation
Step 1
Mix sugar, flour, cocoa and salt in a sauce pan. Slowly add milk, mixing to avoid lumps. Cook until slightly thickened. Beat egg yolks with a little of the hot pudding and add to the mixture. Cook until smooth and thickened. Add vanilla and pour into individual serving dishes or a 1 quart casserole. Chill. Before serving beat egg whites until they hold their shape and add 6 T. sugar. Beat until peaks. Top pudding with mixture and bake at 250 degrees until lightly browned.
Just as good plain.
