Ingredients
- 1 # green beans, fresh, trimmed
- 2 small purple onions, chopped
- 1 tbs evoo
- 1 tbs brown sugar
- 2 tbs butter
- 2 tbs all purpose flour
- 2 c milk
- 1/2 c parmesan cheese, grated
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1/2 c slivered almonds

Preparation
Step 1
Cook green beans until tender crisp, about 3 minutes, dip in ice water to stop cooking process.
Saute onion in hot oil, about 5 minutes. Reduce heat. Stir in brown sugar, cook, stirring often15 minutes or until caramel colored. Remove from pan and set aside.
Melt butter in pan over low heat. Whisk in flour. Cook 1 minute, whisking continuously. Gradually whisk in milk, cook whisking constantly, until thickened and bubbly. Remove from heat. Add cheese, salt and pepper, stir until smooth.
Stir in green beans and onions. Spoon into greased 1 1/2 qt baking dish. Top with almonds.
Bake 350* for 20 minutes.
