- 9 c. water
- 3 c. yellow cornmeal
- 3 tsp. salt
- 3 c. cold water

Step 1
Heat to boiling the 9 cups of water in large pan. Mix the salt, 3 c. cornmeal, and 3 c. cold water in a bowl. Pour this into the boiling water, stirring constantly. Cook until thickened, stirring frequestnly, cover and continue cooking on low heat for 20 minutes or until thick as desired. Stir often even when covered. Pour into 2 loaf pans and cool. When cool, turn out of pans and slice. Pan fry in lightly greased with bacon fryings until crisp and golden brown. Serve covered with white sauce gravy. Some like to serve mush with syrup and some with navy beans. Mush is also eaten as a cereal much like grits.
