Ingredients
- Filling:
- 2 c. brown sugar
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 2 eggs
- 3 T. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 1/2 c. flour
- 1 c. chopped dates
- 1/2 c. nutmeats
- 1/2 c. white sugar
- 1/2 c. water

Preparation
Step 1
Mix the 4 filling ingredients; boil until thick. Cool completely before spreading on the rolled out cookie dough. Combine first 5 ingredients and mix well. Sift together the soda, cream of tartar, salt and flour. Add to the first mixture. Rool out on a floured board as for cut cokies. Spread the filling on the rolled dough and then roll up as for a jelly roll. Let stand overnight in refrigerator to set. Slice off and bake at 375 degrees until lightly browned.
