Ingredients
- 2 c. flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2 egg yolks
- 2/3 c. milk
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 2 egg whites
- 1/2 c. black walnut meats

Step 1
Sift flour and measure 2 cups. Sift again with baking powder and salt. Cream shortening and sugar until smooth and fluffy. Stir in vanilla. Beat 2 egg yolks until lemon color and add to mixture. Add sifted ingredients alternately with milk, stirring until smooth with each addition. Add chopped nuts. Beat egg whites until fluffy, not dry, and fold into cake mixture. Turn into greased 8-inch pan and bake in moderate 350 degree oven for 50 to 60 minutes.
