Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp VE Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup skim milk

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 450

Whisk first 4 ingredients in large mixing bowl.
Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles course crumbs.
Make a well in the center and pour in milk. Immediately stir dry ingredients into the center until a rough dough results.
Scrape out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead for 30 seconds, folding the dough over on itself then pat it out to a 3/4" thickness. Using a 2 1/2" cookie cutter, cut out 8 biscuits using up all the dough.
Arrange on parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until lightly golden.

For cranberry/white chocolate add 1/4 cup of each and glaze with cream and a sprinkle of sugar before baking.
