BUTTER BALL COOKIES
By Lutie
These cookies have been a standard of my Mother’s since I can remember, for all holidays, especially Christmas. She also called them Cherry Wraps - when preparing for Christmas, use both green and red cherries to make these very festive. The dough is versatile - a great butter cookie.

Preparation
Step 1
Cream butter and sugar. Add flour and knead well. Add vanilla & water and mix until incorporated. Form into one inch balls. Flatten the ball in your hand, plunk a cherry in the center and close the dough around the cherry, leaving the top of the cherry exposed. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and refrigerate until firm. You have two choices for baking: 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until golden
350 degrees for 15-16 minutes
When cool, dust with powdered sugar.
Adaptation: Instead of the maraschino cherry version, add 1 cup of chopped walnuts to recipe (also use just a little less flour). Form into balls and bake as above.
