Ingredients
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 cups molasses
- 2 eggs
- 3 3/4 cups flour
- 2 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 tsp cloves
- 2 1/4 tsp ginger
- 2 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1 1/2 cups boiling water

Step 1
Cream the shortening and sugar together in a large bowl. Add the molasses and egg and beat well. Add the rest of the ingredients except the water and mix until combined. Stir in the water. Pour into a 9" x 13" pan and bake at 350 degrees F. for 50 - 60 minutes. I serve it with some applesauce spooned over and maybe a little whipped cream on top!
