Ingredients

  • Honey Topping:
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. warm milk
  • 2 pkgs. dry yeast
  • 4 to 5 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 c. powdered sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 2 T. honey
  • Pinch salt

Preparation

Step 1

Dissolve yeast in warm water with melted shortening. Add slightly beaten egg to warm milk. Gradually stir in flour and salt. Toss lightly on floured board and set aside in warm place to double original bulk. Knead dough and divide in about 3 parts. Mix all Honey Topping ingredients and beat together until fluffy. Roll into rectangles and spread with Honey Topping. Roll as for a jellyroll. Cut in slices and place in greased pans. Let rise until double in bulk. Bake at 375 for 20 minutes or until lightly brown. Halfway through baking period, brush with rest of honey topping.
