Ingredients

  • 11/2 pounds deli roast beef
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1 package onion soup mix
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 loaf French bread or grinder rolls
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 4 ounces sliced Swiss or provolone cheese

Step 1

Slice beef into thin strips. Place beef, water, soy sauce, soup mix, and garlic in a medium saucepan. Simmer for 30 minutes or longer.

Split French bread or grinder rolls and lightly butter each side. Sprinkle with onion powder. Place under broiler until golden brown. Leave only the bottom half of each roll on a sheet pan, and place beef mixture on roll. Top with cheese, and broil again until cheese is just melted. Top with other half of toasted roll (not shown). Serve with juices from saucepan for dipping.
