Ingredients

  • 4 lbs. stewing beef, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1-2 onions, coarsely chopped
  • 2-3 lbs. carrots, peeled and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 3/4 cups flour to coat beef, seasoned to taste
  • 4 Tbs shortening
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 4 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 4 cups water

Preparation

Step 1

Melt shortening in dutch oven over high heat.

Dredge beef in flour and brown in shortening; drain.

Combine ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and 3 cups water. Add brown sugar and stir until well blended. Add to meat.

Parboil carrots and onions; drain. Add to meat.

Cook until meat is tender.

Combine flour with remaining cup of water. Add to meat mixture. Pour slow, stir fast.

Serve over medium egg noodles.
