Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. cubed apples
  • 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
  • 1 qt. vanilla ice cream

Step 1

Separate eggs and beat whites until frothy; gradually add 1/2 c. sugar and continue beating until stiff.

Beat egg yolks; add 1/2 c. sugar and beat until thick and lemon-colored. Combine with egg whites. Fold in sifted dry ingredients. Add vanilla, apples and nuts, mixing gently. Pour batter into a buttered 8" square pan. Bake in a 350 oven 40-45 mins. Cool. Cut into squares and top with ice cream.

This makes 6 generous servings or 9 smaller servings.
