Ingredients

  • 1 Quart Scalded Milk
  • 1 Cup Oil
  • 1 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 4 TSB Molasses
  • 1/2 Cup Karo Syrup
  • 1 TSB Salt
  • 1 TSB Anise Seed
  • 1 Orange Rind
  • 2 Cups Rye Flour
  • 2 Pkg Yeast
  • 5 Cups Sifted Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Milk
  • 3 TBS Sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Combine milk, oil, brown sugar, mollasses, karo syrup, salt, ansie seed, and orange rind to a large saucepan. Scald then cool to 100 degrees. Gently stir in rye flour and yeast. Let it stand for 1/2 hour. Mix flour till a the dough is stiff and has a good textture. Let it rise till it doubles. Punch down. Let Rise evenly in loaf pans till double.

Bake at 375 for 30-35 min. (Convection Bake at 350).

Brush bread while still warm with sugar and milk.
