Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup warm whey - 100-115 degrees(you may use milk)
  • 1 tbls. sugar
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 5 1/2 cups all purpose flour (could also use bread flour or mix in a cup of whole wheat or even gluten-free AP flour)
  • 2 tbls. Italian seasoning
  • 2 1/2 tsp yeast

Step 1

If using a bread machine:

1. Add the ingredients in the order listed by the bread machine manufacturer.

2. Set the machine to dough setting.

3. Once dough if finished, divide into two loaves, shape and place on a greased or buttered backing sheet. Suggested shaping - twist dough tightly to form elongated loaf or simply form into an elongated loaf and make several cuts on the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.

4. Allow the loaves to double in a warm, draft free location.

5. Brush the top of the bread with lightly beaten egg whites.

6. Bake in 450 degree F oven for about 30 minutes, or until golden and make a hollow sound when you tap the top of the bread.


*If making without a bread machine:

1. Substitute 3/4 cup of the whey with water. Use that to proof the yeast - Mix yeast, warm water and sugar. Let it set for about 10 minutes.

2. Combine the yeast mixture with the other ingredients and mix in a large bowl. It is best to add the flour, one cup at a time

3. Turn out he dough onto a lightly floured surface and needed for 2-4 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. The dough will be sticky so, us plenty of flour.
