Ingredients

  • This is a make the night before recipe. I don't use any meat in mine, but it's so much easier to include the meat rather than frying bacon/sausage.

    slices white bread, cubed

  • 1

    lb cubed ham, bacon or sausage

  • ½

    lb sharp cheddar, grated

  • 2

    TBS green (or red/yellow/orange) pepper, chopped

  • 4

    eggs, beaten

  • 2

    cups milk

  • ½

    tsp dry mustard

  • ½

    tsp salt

  • ¼

    cup melted butter

  • 4

    oz sliced mushrooms

Directions

Layer bread, meat, cheese and mushrooms in 9x13 baking pan. Beat eggs, add milk and seasonings. Pour evenly over layered mixture. Pour melted butter on top. Sprinkle with chopped peppers. Cover tightly and refrigerate overnight. Uncover. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Serves 8 I usually make 1-1/2 recipe for X-mas breakfast. If you don't have dry mustard, just use black pepper to taste.
