Ingredients
- 1 cake yeast
- 1/4 c lukewarm water
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp shortning
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 c milk (scalded)
- 6 c flour

Step 1
Add yeast to water and sugar. Let stand 5 min.
Add salt, shortning and remaining sugar to milk and cool to lukewarm. Beat well. Add enough flour to make soft dough. Pour remaining flour on board, turn dough on and knead until smooth.
Place in greased bowl and turn so greased side is up. Cover and let rise until doubled. Punch down and let rise a second time. Divide in half, round into balls, cover and let stand 10 min. shape into loaves and place in greased pans. Let rise until doubled,then bake at 350 until broned and hollow sounding when tapped
