Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup each packed light and dark brown sugars
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter,in 3 pieces
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Preparation

Step 1

-In saucepan,whisk cornstarch,sugars and salt
-Gradually whisk in milk and half and half
-Bring to a boil over medium high heat,whisking
-Remove from heat
-In bowl,whisk yolks until smooth
-Whisk 1 cup hot milk mixture into yolks
-Return to saucepan; bring to a gentle boil over medium heat,whisking
-Boil,whisking,1 minute
-Remove from heat,whisk in butter,then vanilla
-Pour into 6 desert bowls; cover surfaces with plastic wrap
-Refrigerate until well chilled,2 hrs
