Ingredients

  • 1 cup uncooked grits - (not quick)
  • 4.5 to 5 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1.25 pound sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 garlic clove of powder
  • 1 teaspoon black powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 3 eggs
  • crumbled sausage, if desired

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375 deg.

Boil grits with 1st 3 ingredients, then turn to low, cover and cook for 1 hr. (Jana has used quick grits; cooked in shorter amount of time)

Add remaining ingredients (except eggs) and blend well.

Beat 3 eggs and blend well with grits.

Add crumbled sausage, if desired

Cook in a 13 x 9 x 2 in dish at 375 deg for 1 hr
