Ingredients
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tbl cocoa
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tbl vegetable oil
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- 1 3/4 cups very hot water
- Ice cream optional

Step 1
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix flour, granulated sugar, 2 tbl cocoa, baking powder, and salt in ungreased 9 X 9 X 2 pan. Mix in milk, oil and vanilla with fork until smooth. Spread evenly. Sprinkle with brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa. Pour very hot water over batter.
Bake 40 minutes. Spoon warm cake into dessert dishes and top with ice cream if desired. Spoon sauce from pan onto each serving.
Variations:
Add 1 of the following after the liquids, before spreading evenly in pan.
1 cup butterscotch chips (decrease brown sugar to 1/2 cup and the 1/4 cup cocoa to 2 tbl)
1 cup mini-marshmallows
1/2 cup peanut butter
Also good with whipped topping instead of ice cream.
