My own concoction...use whatever pears are available... ditto the Chardonnay...

Ingredients

  • 2 pears (I used red), peeled, halved, cored - stems intact (hopefully)
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 1/8 c honey (not quite)
  • 1 c water
  • 1/2 Chardonnay (I had Bogle on hand)
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • 3 whole cloves
  • broken piece star anise
  • fresh orange peel - 3 strips

Cooking time 45mins

Step 1

simmer, covered, 30 minutes +/- a few.
simmer remaining juices, uncovered, to a syrup - cool to room temp

to serve, partially melt vanilla ice cream.
drizzle a little syrup over all.
