Ingredients

  • Quartered and thinly sliced white onion 4 1/4 cups 1 L
  • (about 1 1/2 lbs., 680 g)
  • Water 4 cups 1 L
  • Beef bouillon powder 4 tsp. 20 mL
  • French bread slices, cut to fit 4 4
  • Grated mozzarella cheese 1 cup 250 mL
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, sprinkle

Preparation

Step 1

Combine first 3 ingredients in 3 1/2 quart (3.5 L) slow cooker. Cover. Cook on Low for 8 to 10 hours or on High for 4 to 5 hours.

Ladle soup into bowls. Place 1 slice of bread in each bowl. Divide mozzarella cheese and sprinkle over each slice. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Broil until cheese is bubbly and golden brown. If preferred, bread with cheese may be broiled separately, then added to each bowl. Serves 4.
