Ingredients

  • 1 c. chopped pecans
  • 1/4 c. packed brown sugar
  • 3 Tb. butter, melted
  • 1 tsp. maple extract
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. vegetable shortening
  • 3/4 c. milk

Preparation

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine pecans, brown sugar, butter and maple extract; set aside.

In a medium bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Using a pastry blender or two knives, cut shortening into dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add milk, stirring just until moistened. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead about 2 minutes. Use a floured rolling pin to roll dough into an 8x12" rectangle; spread pecan mixture over dough. Beginning at 1 long edge, roll up dough jellyroll style. Using a serrated knife, cut into 12 (1") thick slices. Place slices with sides touching in a greased 7x11" baking dish. Cover and refrigerate until ready to bake.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Uncover biscuits and bake 22-25 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve warm.
