Ingredients
- 2 c sugar
- 2 c dry white wine
- 1 piece of fresh ginger, 1/2" long, cut in half crosswise
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 T allspice berries
- 2 T loose black tea leaves
- 4 (4" long) strips orange zest , peel w/a vegetable peeler
- 4 large Asian pears, peeled & halved

Preparation
Step 1
1. Preheat oven to 275F.
2. In a large oven safe saucepan, bring sugar & 3c H2O to a boil over medium heat; cook, stirring occasionally until sugar is dissolved, ~ 5 min.
3. Add wine, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, tea leaves, & orange zest; bring to a boil again.
4. Add pear, remove from heat, & cover, transfer to oven.
5. Bake pears 1.5 hrs, turning every 1/2 hr, until tender but still crisp.
6. Remove from oven; let stand until cool enough to handle.
7. Serve warm, in cooking liquid.
