Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Grease a 9x13 baking dish.
Whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla in a large bowl. Add the King's Hawaiian bread and stir with a spatula to make sure all of the bread gets wet. Allow to sit and soak while preparing the rest of the recipe.
Prepare the apple pie filling: peel and slice the apples and place in a large bowl. Whisk together the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Toss the apples with the sugar coating.
Prepare the streusel: whisk together the brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Use a pastry cutter or forks to cut the butter into the dry ingredients.
Assembly: spread the bread mixture in the baking dish. Layer the apples on top of the bread layer. Sprinkle the streusel over the apples.
Bake for 50 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving with whipped cream or ice cream.
Cover and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
