Preparation
Step 1
Lay crackers side by side in a large sheet pan, lined with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
Bring butter and sugar to boil and continue boiling for 3 minutes without stirring until the soft ball stage (238°F on the candy thermometer or put a small amount of the mixture in very cold water and when you pull it out, you can form a "ball" with it between thumb and forefinger).
Pour toffee over crackers. Bake 5 minutes at 375. Watch carefully so it doesn't burn.
Sprinkle chips evenly over the toffee and return to oven for 30 seconds or until melted. Spread the chocolate evenly (optional: add chopped nuts on top while still warm) and cool to set and harden in refrigerator. Crack apart and enjoy!
(Replace saltines with TownHouse or graham crackers! You can also top with dried cranberries, cherries, or any other dried fruit of your liking.)
